Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the state legislatures and Parliament should seriously consider the UCC and make it into a law.
Lok Sabha Elections 2024:** Before the final phase of voting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah discussed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and One Nation-One Election. He said that if the BJP comes back to power, they will implement the UCC across the country within the next five years after careful discussion.
In an interview with PTI, Shah said the Modi government plans to bring in 'One Nation, One Election' in their next term because it's time to hold elections together in the country. This would also reduce costs.
**Will Election Timing Change?**
Shah also talked about holding elections during the summer heat. He said, "We can think about this. If we hold elections earlier, it can be done and should be done. Summer is also a holiday period for students, which causes many issues. Over time, Lok Sabha elections have moved to the summer."
**UCC Will Be Implemented**
Shah emphasized, "State legislatures and Parliament should seriously consider this and make it a law. That's why we have said in our manifesto that the BJP aims to implement the UCC nationwide within the next five years."
**Amit Shah on One Nation-One Election**
He stated that they will make every effort to achieve One Nation-One Election and that it should be discussed. He said, "The Prime Minister has set up the Ram Nath Kovind committee, and I am a member. The report is submitted. It's time to hold simultaneous elections."
**UCC is a Responsibility**
Shah said, "UCC is a responsibility given to us by the framers of our Constitution. They included the Uniform Civil Code as a guiding principle, believing that a secular country should not have laws based on religion."
