Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to BJP candidate Rekha Patra over phone from Bashirhat, West Bengal on Tuesday. Rekha Patra is known for highlighting the plight of women in Sandeshkhali. Prime Minister Modi praised her as a symbol of strength. They spoke about their election campaign preparations, popular support for the BJP and other topics during the conversation.
Rekha Patra apprised the Prime Minister about the challenges faced by women. He had raised his voice against the alleged atrocities committed by TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh and his associates. The BJP nominated her for the Bashirhat Lok Sabha seat, which includes Sandeshkhali, where she was a leading figure in the movement. It is against this backdrop that the BJP fielded Sandeshkhali's victim. PM Modi further said, “I am sure your vote will reach the Election Commission.The Electoral Commission will take every precaution to ensure that you and all voters can cast their votes safely. It is very unfortunate not to be able to vote. This is the sad work of the Bengal governments.
